Health Insurance Alert: What You Need to Know About Pre-Existing Conditions

Shield Insurance Blog | Pre-Existing Conditions | Health Insurance | Contact Bri

Health insurance is a crucial aspect of our lives, providing financial protection and peace of mind in times of medical emergencies. However, when it comes to pre-existing health conditions, understanding what is considered as such and how it affects your insurance coverage can be confusing. In this blog post, we will delve into the intricacies of pre-existing conditions on health insurance policies, exploring coverage limitations, options, and the underwriting process. Whether you are seeking insurance coverage or looking to understand your existing policy better, this article will provide valuable insights.

Understanding Pre-existing Conditions and Insurance Coverage

A pre-existing condition refers to any illness or health condition that you have before obtaining health insurance coverage. This can include chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, or asthma, as well as any other medical condition that you have been diagnosed with or received treatment for in the past. It is important to note that the definition of pre-existing conditions may vary between insurance companies and policies.

When it comes to insurance coverage, pre-existing conditions can have an impact on your eligibility and the extent of coverage provided. Insurance companies often impose certain limitations and exclusions for pre-existing conditions, which can affect the benefits you receive and the cost of your premiums.

Exploring Coverage Limitations and Options for Health Insurance Plans

Coverage limitations for pre-existing conditions can vary depending on the type of health insurance plan you have. Some plans may exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions altogether, while others may impose waiting periods before providing coverage. It is essential to carefully review the terms and conditions of your health insurance policy to understand the extent of coverage for pre-existing conditions.

Fortunately, there are coverage options available for individuals with pre-existing conditions. Some health insurance plans offer comprehensive coverage for pre-existing conditions, although they may come with higher premiums. Additionally, government programs such as Medicaid and Medicare provide coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions who meet certain eligibility criteria.

The Underwriting Process and Insurance Eligibility for Pre-existing Conditions

Insurance companies use a process called medical underwriting to assess an individual’s health status and determine their eligibility for coverage. During the underwriting process, insurers may review your medical history, including any pre-existing illness, to evaluate the level of risk you pose.

It is important to disclose all relevant information about your medical history during the underwriting process. Failure to disclose pre-existing concerns accurately can lead to denial of coverage or even cancellation of your policy in the future. Honesty and transparency are key when it comes to obtaining insurance coverage for pre-existing concerns.

Kentucky convenience store bathrooms transform into disco clubs

UPI | January 25, 2023 | Disco Clubs | Shield Insurance Agency Blog

Jan. 26 (UPI) — A chain of Kentucky convenience stores are attracting visitors and going viral online for an unusual feature: a button that turns the bathroom into a disco club with a dance party.

Six HOP Shops locations in Northern Kentucky have big red buttons installed in their bathrooms with a sign reading: “Do Not Push This Button.”

Mary Moss, the manager at the HOP Shops in Walton, said a winking photo of mascot Hopper the Frog on the sign is meant to indicate to customers that they should actually push the button, and its an experience she recommends.

Pushing the button activates colored lights, a disco ball and music in the bathroom, turning it into a miniature disco club.

The bathrooms have proven to be a big draw, with workers at the HOP Shops reporting that many people come into the stores just to experience the disco bathrooms. Videos documenting what happens when someone pushes the button have gone viral on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

“I had a 60-year-old woman who came out of the restroom and told me it was the best day of her life,” Moss told WDKY-TV.

Ann Gilbert, manager of human resources at parent company Valor Oil, said the disco bathrooms were the brainchild of the company’s vice president of retail marketing, Damon Bail.

The first bathroom was installed at the HOP Shop in Verona in February 2023, and proved to be such a big hit that the company started expanding them to other locations, with the sixth disco bathroom opening earlier this month in Florence.

Travelers go out of their way to visit bathrooms that look and feel like Disco Clubs

Insider Secrets Revealed: Waiver of Subrogation and Its Benefits!

Shield Insurance Agency Blog | Waiver of Subrogation | Contact Us to Learn More! | Start A Quote Today!

Subrogation is a term that is often used in the insurance industry, but many people may not fully understand what it means or how it can impact them. In simple terms, subrogation refers to the process by which an insurance company can seek reimbursement from a third party for a claim that it has paid out to its insured. This is done when the third party is responsible for the damages or losses that the insured has suffered.

However, there are situations where a waiver may come into play. A waiver of subrogation is a contractual agreement between parties that prevents an insurance company from seeking reimbursement from a third party, even if that third party is responsible for the damages or losses. This waiver essentially waives the insurance company’s right to subrogate against the responsible party.

Benefits of subrogation waivers

There are several benefits to including a waiver of subrogation in a contract or insurance policy. One of the main benefits is that it can help streamline the claims process. Without it, the insurance company would have to go through the process of seeking reimbursement from the responsible party, which can be time-consuming and costly. By including this contractual provision, the insurance company can avoid this process and quickly pay out the claim to its insured.

Another benefit of a subrogation waiver is that it can help protect relationships between parties. In many cases, the responsible party may be a business partner, vendor, or contractor. By including a waiver of subrogation in the contract or insurance policy, the insured is essentially saying that they will not hold the responsible party financially responsible for any damages or losses. This can help maintain a positive working relationship and prevent any potential disputes or legal action.

Explaining Waiver of Subrogation

To better understand how subrogation waivers work, let’s consider an example. Imagine that you own a small business and you have a contract with a cleaning company to clean your office space. One day, while the cleaning company is working, they accidentally knock over a valuable piece of equipment, causing significant damage. In this case, you would file a claim with your insurance company to cover the cost of the damage.

If there was no waiver of subrogation in place, your insurance company would then seek reimbursement from the cleaning company for the damages they caused. However, if there was a waiver of subrogation in the contract between you and the cleaning company, your insurance company would not be able to seek reimbursement from them. Instead, they would pay out the claim and the matter would be resolved.

Importance of A Waiver of Subrogation

Subrogation waivers are important because they can help protect businesses and individuals from potential financial losses. Without a waiver of subrogation, an insurance company could seek reimbursement from a responsible party, which could result in additional costs and potential legal disputes. By including a waiver of subrogation in a contract or insurance policy, parties can avoid these potential issues and focus on resolving the claim quickly and efficiently.

Subrogation rights

It’s important to note that a waiver of subrogation does not completely eliminate subrogation rights. Even if a waiver of subrogation is in place, an insurance company may still have the right to subrogate in certain situations. For example, if the responsible party intentionally caused the damages or losses, the insurance company may still be able to seek reimbursement. Additionally, if the responsible party has insurance coverage, the insurance company may be able to subrogate against their policy.

Waiver of Subrogation and Contract Agreements

Subrogation waivers are commonly included in contract agreements, especially in industries where there is a higher risk of damages or losses. For example, construction contracts often include subrogation waivers to protect contractors and subcontractors from potential claims. By including a waiver of subrogation in the contract, the parties can agree that they will not seek reimbursement from each other for any damages or losses that occur during the project.

Subrogation waiver and indemnification

It’s important to understand that a waiver of subrogation is different from indemnification. While both terms are often used together in contracts and insurance policies, they have distinct meanings. Indemnification refers to the act of compensating someone for a loss or damage that they have suffered. A waiver of subrogation, on the other hand, refers specifically to the insurance company’s right to seek reimbursement from a responsible party.

Waiver of Subrogation and insurance claims

When it comes to insurance claims, a waiver of subrogation can have a significant impact. Without a waiver of subrogation, an insurance company may be able to seek reimbursement from a responsible party, which could result in delays and additional costs. By including a waiver of subrogation in the insurance policy, the claims process can be expedited, allowing the insured to receive compensation more quickly.

Sea Otter 841, From The Lens Of Photographer Who Made Her Famous

The Patch | by Beth Dalbey | Sea Otter | Shield Insurance Blog

Mark Woodward’s respect for the surfing sea otter grew along with a collection of pictures people have been swooning over around the world.

Sea Otter 841 wrested this board from a surfer and took a bite out of it. Wildlife officials had tried for months to capture 841, but she “outsmarted them every time,” according to Mark Woodward, who has documented the surfboard-stealing otter’s life.

Sea Otter 841 bites down on a surfboard off the coast of Santa Cruz, known for its world-class waves. Amateur photographer Mark Woodward said he photographed 841 on a board 10 times, and said she took a bite of the board on at least five occasions.

Otter 841 gives chase to a couple of people paddling to Santa Cruz’s world-class surfing waves.

Otter 841 and her pup have company as they float off the coast of Santa Cruz. Sea otters need to conserve their energy, which is why it’s common to see them floating on their backs on the surface of the water.

World-famous Sea Otter

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Before his photos made Otter 841 world-famous for her harassment of surfers — or, rather, theirs of 841, because the people whose boards have had huge bites taken from them are not exactly innocent — Mark Woodward was just a semi-retired guy who liked poking around Santa Cruz with his camera and taking pretty pictures.

The 62-year-old amateur photographer snaps photos of lots of things besides sea otters. He is a citizen journalist whose photos of floods, mudslides and other disastrous spring weather events were a vital link to people cut off from the communication. He plans to do more of that as a community service. It’s one way he can help. A lifelong resident, he loves Santa Cruz.

Woodward was at Cowells Beach on June 18 to photograph Black Surf Club Santa Cruz’s Juneteenth paddle out when he saw the now infamous sea otter taking a ride. He moved his camera, focused it and snapped a series of pictures that would ignite a fierce debate about whose ocean it is, anyway?

Woodward figured it was “a fluke,” a funny one, but still a one-off. But 10 days later, 841 hopped on another board and took a little sail. Woodward posted his photos under his social media handle, Native Santa Cruz, and “that was the start of the madness,” he told Patch in a phone interview Thursday.

The madness included more requests for his photos from more places around the world than Woodward could have imagined and a collaboration with four University of California, Santa Barbara students doing a documentary on human and animal interaction in the coastal area. And the madness certainly includes what Woodward calls a bungled response to the otter’s aggression by wildlife officials, at least from a public relations standpoint.

“Two days later, the Monterey Bay Aquarium reached out,” Woodward said. “We talked for an hour, and I learned a lot about 841. She does have a history.”

Stay Ahead of the Game: Adding Additional Insured for Extra Security

Shield Insurance Agency Blog | Additional Insured | Contact Us to learn more! | Start A Quote Today!

Insurance policies can be complex, and understanding the various terms and coverage options can be overwhelming. One such term is “additional insured.” In this blog post, we will delve into the concept of additional insured, its importance, and when it should be added to your policy. We will also explore additional coverage, policyholder obligations, and the role of Shield Insurance Agency in providing comprehensive insurance protection. By the end of this article, you will have a clear understanding and how it can benefit you.

Understanding Additional Insured Coverage and its Importance in Insurance Policies

Insurance policies typically provide coverage for the policyholder, but there are situations where additional coverage is necessary. Additional coverage extends the policy’s protection to other parties who may be involved in a claim or lawsuit related to the policyholder’s activities. This additional coverage is known as an “additional insured endorsement.”

Adding an additional insured to your policy is crucial in situations where you collaborate with other businesses, subcontractors, or vendors. By adding them as additional insured, you are ensuring that they are protected under your policy in case of any liability claims arising from their work on your behalf.

The Role of Additional Insured Endorsement and its Requirements

To add an additional insured to your policy, you need to request an endorsement from your insurance provider. This endorsement modifies your policy to include the additional insured and extends coverage to them.

The requirements for adding an additional insured may vary depending on your insurance company and policy type. Generally, you will need to provide the additional insured’s name, contact information, and their relationship to your business. Additionally, you may need to specify the scope of coverage you want to extend to the additional insured.

It’s important to note that adding an additional insured does not mean they have the same rights and responsibilities as the policyholder. They are only covered under the policy for claims arising from the policyholder’s actions.

Exploring Insurance Policy Additions and Terminology

Insurance policies can be complex, with various terms and additions that may confuse policyholders. Understanding insurance terminology is crucial to ensure you have the right coverage for your needs.

In addition to additional insured, there are other policy additions you may come across, such as additional coverage options, endorsements, and riders. These additions can enhance your policy’s protection and tailor it to your specific requirements.

It’s essential to review your policy thoroughly and consult with your insurance agent to understand the different policy additions available and how they can benefit you. This will help you make informed decisions about your insurance coverage and ensure you have adequate protection.

Policyholder Obligations, Protections, and Responsibilities

As a policyholder, you have certain obligations, protections, and responsibilities. It is crucial to understand these to ensure you comply with your policy’s terms and conditions.

Your obligations as a policyholder include paying premiums on time, providing accurate information to your insurance provider, and notifying them of any changes that may affect your coverage.

On the other hand, your policy provides you with certain protections, such as coverage for specified risks and financial compensation in case of covered losses. It is essential to review your policy to understand the extent of your protection and any limitations or exclusions.

As a policyholder, you also have responsibilities, such as maintaining a safe environment, implementing risk management strategies, and promptly reporting any claims or incidents to your insurance provider.

The Importance of Risk Management and Shield Insurance Agency’s Expertise

Risk management plays a vital role in protecting your business and minimizing potential losses. Shield Insurance Agency, representing over 45 insurance companies, understands the importance of comprehensive risk management strategies.

By partnering with Shield Insurance Agency, you gain access to their expertise in identifying potential risks, recommending appropriate coverage options, and ensuring your policy meets your specific needs. 22 Babies at 24 Years Old: The Unbelievable Story of Kristina Osturk

Shield Insurance Blog | 22 Babies | By Allison Levine | March 6, 2024 | Life Insurance

Kristina Ozturk and her husband Galip are currently the proud parents of 21 children, plus one more Kristina had before they met. What’s more, all 21 of the couple’s children were born within 18 months of each other. How is that possible? Here is the unbelievable, but true, story of the Ozturk family.

Teenage Single Mom of 22 Babies

In 2014, the Moscow-born woman Kristina Ozturk was a 17-year-old single mother responsible for caring for and raising her daughter alone. It was at this moment that, in a plot twist that could have been written into a Disney movie, Kristina’s life changed forever.

The Russian teenager, who had been working as a stripper in order to support her family, took a trip away. As the mother and daughter enjoyed their first international vacation in the Georgian seaside resort of Batumi, Kristina met a 50-year-old millionaire hotel owner named Galip Ozturk and, despite the 33-year age gap, the two fell head over heels in love.

On the Same Page

It wasn’t only an attraction for each other that the teenage Kristina and millionaire Galip shared, they were also on the same page when it came to extending their family. While many couples wish to have 2, 3, or even 4 children, Kristina and Galip Ozturk, who married soon after meeting, wanted to have as many as they possibly could.

At first, Kristina and Galip planned to have one child a year. They quickly decided that wouldn’t give them as many children as they wanted, as quickly as they hoped for. That’s when they decided to begin using surrogates.

22 Babies in 17 Months

By using surrogates to grow their family, Kristina and Galip Ozturk removed all biological limitations on the number of children they could produce, and how quickly. Between March 2020 and July 2021, the couple welcomed 21 children into their lives. Added to Kristina’s existing daughter, that meant 22 kids to look after, 21 of whom were under 18 months old.

Is a high-deductible health insurance policy right for you? Find out now!

Shield Insurance Agency Blog | High-deductible Health Insurance | Contact Bri with questions

In today’s world, finding affordable health insurance options can be a daunting task. With the rising cost of healthcare and the complexities of the healthcare system, it’s important to carefully consider your options when choosing the right health insurance policy. One option that may be worth exploring is a high-deductible health insurance policy. In this blog post, we will discuss the benefits, drawbacks, and cost considerations of high-deductible health insurance, helping you determine if it’s the right choice for you.

Understanding High-Deductible Health Insurance

Before we dive into the pros and cons of high-deductible health insurance, let’s first understand what it is. A high-deductible health insurance policy is a type of medical insurance that requires you to pay a higher deductible before your insurance coverage kicks in. The deductible is the amount you must pay out-of-pocket for medical expenses before your insurance starts covering the costs. Typically, high-deductible health insurance policies have lower monthly premiums, making them an attractive option for those looking to save on their healthcare expenses.

Benefits of High-Deductible Health Insurance

One of the main benefits of a high-deductible health insurance policy is the potential for cost savings. With lower monthly premiums, you can save money on your insurance expenses. This can be especially beneficial for individuals or families who are generally healthy and don’t require frequent medical care. By opting for a high-deductible plan, you can allocate your savings towards other financial goals or build an emergency fund.

Another advantage of high-deductible health insurance is the flexibility it provides. With a high-deductible plan, you have the option to open a Health Savings Account (HSA). An HSA is a tax-advantaged savings account that allows you to set aside money for medical expenses. The contributions you make to an HSA are tax-deductible, and the funds can be used to pay for qualified medical expenses, even if they don’t meet your deductible. This can provide additional savings and financial security.

Drawbacks of High-Deductible Health Insurance

While high-deductible health insurance policies offer potential cost savings, they also come with some drawbacks. One of the main drawbacks is the higher out-of-pocket expenses. With a high deductible, you will be responsible for paying a larger portion of your medical expenses before your insurance coverage kicks in. This can be a significant financial burden, especially if you require frequent medical care or have a chronic condition.

Another drawback of high-deductible health insurance is the limited coverage. High-deductible plans often have higher deductibles and lower coverage limits, meaning you may have to pay more for certain medical services or medications. It’s important to carefully review the coverage details of any health insurance policy you are considering to ensure it meets your specific healthcare needs.

Cost Considerations and Comparison

When deciding if a high-deductible health insurance policy is right for you, it’s crucial to consider the overall cost. While the lower monthly premiums may seem appealing, you must evaluate your potential out-of-pocket expenses. Consider your current health status, medical history, and any ongoing medical needs. If you anticipate needing frequent medical care or have a chronic condition, a high-deductible plan may not be the most cost-effective option for you.

To determine if a high-deductible health insurance policy is the right choice, it’s essential to compare it with other available options. Consider the benefits, drawbacks, and costs of different health insurance policies. Shield Insurance Agency represents over 45 insurance companies and can help you navigate the complex world of health insurance. Contact Shield Insurance Agency at (616) 896-4600 for a free quote today or start the quoting process by visiting this LINK, and an agent will be in touch soon.

Making an Informed Decision

Choosing the right health insurance policy is a crucial decision that can have a significant impact on your financial well-being. By carefully considering the benefits, drawbacks, and cost considerations of a high-deductible health insurance policy, you can make an informed decision that aligns with your healthcare needs and financial goals. Remember to consult with a trusted insurance agent or financial advisor to ensure you have all the information you need to make the best choice for you and your family.

In conclusion, a high-deductible health insurance policy can be a viable option for individuals or families looking to save on their healthcare expenses. However, it’s important to weigh the benefits and drawbacks, consider your specific healthcare needs, and compare different health insurance policies before making a decision. By doing so, you can find the right health insurance coverage that provides the necessary protection while also being financially sustainable.

Insurance Demystified: Understanding Actual Cash Value in a Snap 💰

Insurance Demystified: Understanding Actual Cash Value in a Snap

Understanding Actual Cash Value Insurance and its Importance in Insurance Coverage

When it comes to insurance policies, understanding the terms and definitions is crucial to ensure you have the right coverage. One such term that often arises is “actual cash value.” But what exactly does it mean? In this blog post, we will explain the concept of actual cash value in insurance policies, its importance in determining coverage, and how Shield Insurance Agency, representing over 45 insurance companies, can assist you in finding the right policy. Contact Shield Insurance Agency at (616) 896-4600 for a free quote today or start the quoting process by visiting this LINK and an agent will be in touch soon.

Actual Cash Value Explained

Actual cash value refers to the value of an insured item at the time of a loss or damage. It takes into account the item’s original cost minus depreciation. In simpler terms, it is the amount you would receive from your insurance company to replace or repair the item, considering its age, wear and tear, and market value.

For example, let’s say you have a five-year-old laptop that gets stolen. The actual cash value of the laptop would be calculated by subtracting the depreciation from its original cost. If the laptop’s original cost was $1,000 and its depreciation is estimated at 20% per year, the actual cash value would be $600 ($1,000 – ($1,000 * 0.2 * 5)).

Cash Value in Insurance Policies

While actual cash value is commonly associated with property insurance, it can also be relevant in other types of insurance policies. For instance, life insurance policies may have a cash value component that accumulates over time. This cash value can be borrowed against or used to pay premiums.

In property insurance, the inclusion of actual cash value in the policy can affect the premium you pay. Policies that provide coverage based on actual cash value tend to have lower premiums compared to those that offer replacement cost coverage. However, it’s important to consider the potential out-of-pocket expenses you may face if you need to replace or repair an item.

Insurance Coverage Explained

Understanding the coverage provided by your insurance policy is crucial to ensure you have adequate protection. Actual cash value coverage may be suitable for items that have depreciated significantly or are easily replaceable. However, for valuable items or those with sentimental value, it may be worth considering additional coverage options, such as replacement cost coverage or scheduled personal property coverage.

Replacement cost coverage provides reimbursement for the cost of replacing an item with a similar one, without considering depreciation. Scheduled personal property coverage allows you to specifically list and insure high-value items, ensuring they are fully covered in case of loss or damage.

NFL fans who went to -20C game attended by Taylor Swift ‘underwent amputations after suffering frostbite’

The football fans were among dozens of people across Kansas City who had to be treated for frostbite due to an 11-day cold snap at the beginning of the year. Taylor Swift was also at the match, supporting her boyfriend – but avoided the worst of the cold.

At least “some” NFL fans who attended a near-record cold game in Kansas City suffered extreme frostbite and had to undergo amputations, doctors have revealed.

Spectators braved -20C (-4F) temperatures to watch the Kansas City Chiefs host the Miami Dolphins at Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC wildcard round back on 13 January.

The wind chill – what the temperature feels like to the human body – dipped as low as -33C (-27F).

As a result, some fans were treated for frostbite, which causes damage to the skin and tissue, particularly extremities such as fingers and toes, after exposure to freezing temperatures.

The Research Medical Centre in Kansas said it had treated dozens of people who had experienced frostbite during an 11-day cold snap at the beginning of the year.

Twelve of those people, including some who were at the football game, had to undergo amputations involving mostly fingers and toes.

The centre said it was expecting to carry out more surgeries over the next few weeks as “injuries evolve”.

Christine Hamele, associate vice president of HCA Midwest Health, which operates seven hospitals, including the Research Medical Centre and its Grossman Burn Centre, said: “To date, 12 patients have undergone amputation surgeries, some of which attended the Chiefs game.

“Our specialised physicians and expert care team continue to treat and monitor patients’ healing to address long-term needs, and we expect more surgical procedures over the next two to four weeks as their injuries evolve.”
